The movie follows the story of Finn, who is kicked out of his band and unable to pay his share of the rent. One day he decides to take his roommate’s job as a substitute teacher and finds himself teaching a classroom of a bunch of gifted musicians, who he hopes will win him the Battle of the Bands. 1. Karate Kid (1984)

Karate Kid has it all, passion, heart, good versus evil, a wise teacher, and a final battle to end the movie spectacularly. This movie follows Daniel LaRusso as he is bullied and beat up by a group of Cobra Kai students who are all martial arts students. When the gang chases Daniel to his home, the eccentric Mr. Miyagi steps in to defend the boy and defeats the bullies. He agrees to Daniel’s request to teach him Karate so that he may be able to stand up to the boys.  

1. Freaky Friday (2003)

2003 was a good year for movies. Another gem from this year is Freak Friday, where mother and daughter switch bodies and are forced to live as the other. Anna’s widowed mother, Tess, is having a hard time dealing with her daughter’s increasing troubles and rebellious antics. On the other hand, Anna is having a hard time trying to navigate her teenage life. The movie wonderfully and humorously navigates the mother and daughter’s reaction to the switch as each of them better understands what the other is going through. 

1. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

Robin Williams plays Daniel Hillard, a loving father, who the mother considers unreliable. Fed-up by his behavior, she files for divorce and wins sole custody over the children. To be able to meet them more often, Daniel transforms himself into Mrs. Doubtfire, a nanny who his wife hires. While the movie has gained mixed reviews, Robin Williams’ amazing performance makes this movie a worthwhile watch with your children.

1. Star Wars Saga (1977)

The galaxy far far away is responsible for boasting one of the largest fan bases in the world. That’s no surprise, seeing the themes of the movie are relevant to people of all ages and at all times. George Lucas released A New Hope to audiences in 1977, and the rest is history. 

The original trilogy follows Luke Skywalker, a young boy who learns he is strong with the force. From there, he is forced to come to terms with the role he has to play to bring down Darth Vader, the evilest man in the galaxy, and his father. 

The intricate plot doesn’t stop there. After the original trilogy’s release, Lucas decided to focus on Darth Vader’s early life. While the films have split the fans, the movies offer a wonderful insight into the iconic villain we can’t help but love. Another trilogy, starring Daisy Ridley and John Boyega was released that offered fans a glimpse at an older Luke Skywalker and the years that had passed until then.
